I'm curious where the logic was on the ones who have medical license holders? Has the experience been negative? Is it the investors? The patients?

A new bill in Prince George’s County could limit where cannabis businesses can operate and how they can advertise. Some dispensary owners worry about the impact on their rights and revenues. We at Kinner & McGowan are working to protect the cannabis industry and the community interests. We believe this bill goes against the will of Maryland voters who favored marijuana legalization. 🔗 Check out the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eh88hYEPWhat do you think? The United States is undergoing a green revolution, and it’s not just the wake-up call for environmentalism; it’s the unmistakable surge of the cannabis industry in the country. From the cannabis footholds of California and Colorado to the heartlands of Michigan and Oklahoma and the growing scene on the East Coast, marijuana is not just a growing market—it’s rapidly becoming a fixture of American culture, speech, and, most importantly, legislation.Long gone are the days when discussions around marijuana legalization were hushed tones relegated to the fringes of political and social discourse.Today, a solid majority of Americans have flipped the script, advocating for the loosening, if not the complete removal, of cannabis prohibition.

#Colorado's recreational cannabis system turns 10! The first US experiment with regulated recreational use. It's not perfect - not by far - but I feel it is still one of the better state systems.I've seen a LOT of grumbling against regulated systems on here recently. Mostly "I don't want to pay taxes" sentiment. But taxes are necessary to fund oversight of the system itself. Plus here in CO to fund systems to make the state a better place to live. $2.6 billion to be exact - in a state just under 6 million people. "By most accounts, the state’s legalization experiment has been a success, demonstrating to the rest of the country that replacing criminalization with regulation can effectively transition people to the legal market, mitigate youth access, promote public health and raise revenue to support programs and services."And finally to those grumblers that also say the state systems are outdated - it just turned 10. How can that be considered a "dinosaur"? Happy new year everyone! To those who can, enjoy your access to legal weed that CO helped pave the way for! https://lnkd.in/gFYWkfUS

VA ADULT USE UPDATE : HB 698 & SB 448HB 698 & SB 448 have made it to Gov. Youngkin's desk, but many in the legislature doubt these will be signed into law this session. The Governor has until April 8 to sign, but up to this point has expressed he doesn't "have any interest" in moving forward. Are you affected by cannabis legalization in Virginia? New York recently passed the legalization of recreational marijuana, but the state has yet to open up a cannabis licensing window. As of now, it's unclear how long this process will take. The governor has suggested that it could take several months before recreational dispensaries begin operations in New York. In addition to securing licenses, businesses must also gain approval from municipalities before they can open their doors and serve customers. #CannabisNY #CannabisinNewYork #LegalWeedinNY #RecreationalMarijuanainNY #NewYorkMarijuanaLicensing #CannabisBusinessinNYhttps://bit.ly/41GYtlM

New laws and regulations are likely to be implemented in both New Jersey and New York in the very near future, which will greatly affect parties’ abilities to work with marijuana businesses. In states with regulated marijuana industries, parties involved in financial dealings with cannabis businesses must comply with state marijuana laws regulating their transactions with, and interests in, licensed marijuana businesses. Violations of relevant regulations may cause licensees to incur penalties that can extend as far as license cancellation. While the relevant rules vary among the states, each state's marijuana regulations define, determine eligibility, and regulate the conduct of owners or true parties of interest in the license-holding marijuana business. These definitions can greatly affect a party's ability to hold an interest in, lend money to, or contribute goods or services to a marijuana business.More on New York and New Jersey regulations from Heidi Urness and David Waxman in this article authored for Law360: https://lnkd.in/gJ6kDWFY#cannabislaw #cannabisnews #newyork #newjersey #regulation

No matter whether you're in NY or NJ, it is critical that #cannabis licensees, as well as those investing in, supplying goods and services to, leasing to, and lending to them fully understand these critical, and sometimes misunderstood, requirements in each state where they intend to associate with a #cannabisbusiness. Thanks to Law360 and Heidi Urness.

Challenging the status quo, a new federal court filing by cannabis businesses argues that the U.S.'s broad cannabis prohibition lacks a "rational basis" amid state-level legalizations. Advocating that federal inaction has made the Controlled Substances Act obsolete, the plaintiffs, led by industry heavyweights like Verano and legal titan David Boies, assert that state-legal cannabis reduces illicit trade and deserves constitutional protection. This pivotal lawsuit questions the federal stance against cannabis, highlighting a shift towards acknowledging the plant's regulated use within states. A landmark debate on federal vs. state regulation is unfolding.#policyreform #cannabispolicy #federalcourt #cannabisbusiness
